BMW India has opened pre-launch bookings for the X1 Long Wheelbase, with the new SUV scheduled for its Indian launch on August 21, 2026.
The key attraction is additional rear-seat space. The X1 LWB has been stretched compared with the standard-wheelbase X1, giving the model a stronger focus on rear passenger comfort — a feature that matters particularly in the Indian luxury-car market.
BMW says the new X1 LWB will be locally produced at the BMW Group Plant Chennai. Local production can improve the product’s positioning compared with a fully imported model, although final pricing will be announced at the launch.
The X1 LWB will sit alongside the regular X1 and the electric iX1 LWB in BMW’s broader Indian SUV range. Its appeal is likely to be strongest among buyers who want a premium compact SUV but place a high priority on second-row space.
The launch is also notable because long-wheelbase versions have become increasingly popular in China and other Asian markets, while Indian buyers have historically valued additional rear-seat legroom.
CarsHubIndia takeaway: The X1 LWB is an important upcoming luxury launch because it adapts a compact premium SUV specifically toward the space expectations of Indian buyers. Final price, engine specification and variant equipment will determine its competitiveness.
